Decades of Tradition, Committment and Excellence.

George McQueen, one of the "Founding Fathers" of yacht building in the Vancouver area, started building "McQueen" custom yachts in 1952, with twenty eight foot cruisers, where the owner just had to bring his sofa bed aboard and the yacht was ready to go. George's experience came from boatbuilding and ships joinery in the years prior to 1940. His start was at Northe's where he built furniture for freighters and in the early 40's he started his boatbuilding career by building a Thornton Grenfell designed 17 foot all mahogany on oak frame runabout. 45 of these 17 footers were built and sold for between $1500 to $1700. After a few years of building these, George moved on to manage Harbour Marine Services in North Vancouver where he was building 26 foot to 28 foot Express Cruisers that sold for about $5000. In 1951 George purchased property on Kent St. in South Vancouver on the banks of the Fraser River where he started building his own 28 footers. George started to build bigger and bigger yachts, designed by Ed Monk Sr., as his customers' needs grew. George retired from active business in 1982 and his son Doug started his career, continuing to build in his father's footsteps. McQueen has a long history of building larger boats for many repeat customers. In 1984 McQueen built it's last "Traditional" Ed Monk designed all wood yacht. McQueen then switched to building Ed Monk Jr. designed, fiberglass yachts. This tradition continues today. The Ed Monk Sr. and George McQueen relationship carries on today with Ed Monk Jr. and Doug McQueen. McQueen has constructed over 50 high quality yachts that are 70 feet long and larger. From the 28 footers of the early 1950's to the 115 foot "Hotei," McQueen has built from the very simple to the most extravagant that the mind can conceive. Today this tradition in excellence continues.
